This week the Cognizant Classic (Formerly known as the Honda Classic) takes place in south Florida’s The Palm Beaches’ The Champion Course at PGA National. Home of the famous (or infamous) “The Bear Trap”, this course will host strong, gusty winds, water hazards on seemingly every hole, and one of the hardest 3-hole stretches in the game of golf. So who will come out on top? Who’s a favorite that may fail to deliver? I’ll give my two cents, but don’t take my word for it.

1. Cam Young

Cameron Young has the game to play well here. He finished in the top-five at last year’s Cognizant and hasn’t given me any indications that he can’t do it again. Sure, he might miss some putts inside makeable range, and that’s always a concern. But with a weaker field this year and some great clutch play in TGL, I don’t see why he can’t be a contender.

2. Jordan Spieth

I know, I know. He was sort of a last-minute commit to this tournament, and some folks think he’s washed. But what do you want me to say? I love this guy! With the Arnold Palmer Invitational coming up next week, I’d imagine he’s trying to stay loose and keep his game in shape for that tournament. So with a little less pressure, a lack of big names, and good weather, I could see Spieth pulling this one off.

3. Shane Lowry

The Irishman has been playing good golf recently. Plus, his excellent ball-control in the wind is what led him to be an Open Champion. While the winds we expect to see shouldn’t be as severe as what we see out in the UK, it will still affect players nonetheless. It’s no mystery why he’s Vegas’ favorite, Shane Lowry has the game and the confidence to be able to win this tournament.

Fraud: Daniel Berger

Sure, Berger has done well at this tournament in the past. But despite two top-four finishes in his last there starts, he still has not achieved a win in Florida. He has a low, piercing ball flight, and has shown some great golf so far this year. But I just don’t trust him to get it done this week in the Sunshine State.

Well, those are my predictions. Feel free to listen to me… or don’t. I, like everyone reading this, am just stating my opinions and making predictions. I hope these players have a great week, and may the best man win.
