Ah, the Waste Management Phoenix Open, a tournament full of wasted patrons and unforgettable excitement. This year’s WMPO was no exception. Belgium’s Thomas Detry ran up the score at TPC Scottsdale, enough to give himself a comfortable cushion that the other player’s couldn’t seem to get close to.

Detry finished with a score of -24, with Michael Kim and Daniel Berger at -17. Detry fought off a hot Scheffler (who later fell apart on the back nine), Justin Thomas (who ended his week with an eagle from the fairway on the 18th), and… Jordan Spieth! This week was huge for Spieth fans, as he played some really solid golf for the first time in a while.
Woods withdraws from Genesis Invitational

Earlier in the weekend, Tiger Woods committed to the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines. The golf world was in a frenzy, as he was among big names like Scheffler, McIlroy, Morikama, Åberg, and more. But this morning Tiger put out an announcement, explaining that “…I’m just not ready.” after his mom passed earlier this week. It’s totally understandable. I am blessed to still have my parents with me, I cannot imagine what he and his family is going through right now.
I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.

Kultida Woods passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 4th, at the age of 80. “She was quick with the needle and a laugh” Tiger explained in a social media post that announced her passing. Tiger credits her with his personal achievements, saying that they never would’ve been possible without her support. She’s credited with encouraging Tiger to wear his iconic “Sunday Red” look that would be nearly as recognizable as his fist pumps and awkward high-fives with his caddy, Steve Williams. She helped shape the man who many consider to be the greatest golfer ever, and one of the greatest athletes of all time.
Rest in peace, Kultida Woods.
